Efforts to Address Skills and Training Needs
Workforce Development Officers administered by the Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations assist community organisations with training needs across the Greater Darwin region. A new $10 million Trades Training Centre has opened at Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina campus, focusing on carpentry, plumbing and electrotechnology while catering to over 500 students annually. Ironbark Aboriginal Corporation began delivering a Workforce Australia Generalist stream contract on 1 July 2025, expanding employment services to jobseekers in Casuarina and Palmerston.
Strategy Development and Next Steps
The Northern Territory Government is preparing a new whole-of-Territory Workforce Development Strategy. Public consultation sessions for Darwin are scheduled for November, with online feedback open until 30 January 2026.
