A separate project at the Darwin Basketball Stadium on Abala Road will extend the existing courts by two and install updated seating for 1,200 spectators. Both locations sit within 10 minutes of the CBD and already host National Rugby League pre-season matches and state league basketball.
Records from the Northern Territory Department of Sport show participation in organised sport rose 18 percent between 2023 and 2025, reaching 47,200 registered players. The new infrastructure is designed to accommodate a further 6,000 users annually once completed in early 2028.
