Free Things to Do in Darwin: Parks, Art and the Foreshore

Darwin offers a solid range of free activities, starting with the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) in Fannie Bay, which covers Cyclone Tracy history, Aboriginal art and natural science at no cost. East Point Reserve, a peninsula north of the city, combines a saltwater lake swimming area with walking trails, WWII gun emplacements and wildlife including wallabies at dusk. The Darwin Botanic Gardens near Stuart Park are free and offer a peaceful escape from the heat. The Esplanade foreshore walk from the CBD toward Cullen Bay has good views over the harbour and is best in the early morning or evening.
