Gyms and Fitness in Darwin: Staying Active in the Top End
Darwin has a strong gym and fitness network for a small capital city, reflecting the active defence force and public service population. Major 24-hour chain gyms are present in the CBD and suburban centres including Casuarina, Palmerston and the northern suburbs. The Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre on Bradshaw Terrace is the largest public aquatic facility and has a 50-metre outdoor pool, leisure pool and gym. The Darwin Waterfront Precinct pool is also available for lap swimming. The Dry season climate makes outdoor training genuinely enjoyable; running along the Waterfront and East Point paths is a popular early morning activity. Many gyms and studios are air-conditioned for wet season comfort. As a government-employer-heavy city, many fitness facilities have government employee discount arrangements worth enquiring about.
