Competitors from Casuarina Senior College and Palmerston Senior College posted winning times and distances across multiple events at Marrara Oval on July 8.

Casuarina Senior College swept the boys 100m and 200m titles while Palmerston Senior College took the girls 400m and shot put at the Darwin Secondary Schools Athletics Carnival on July 8 at Marrara Oval.
The mid-season carnival serves as the main selection trial for the Northern Territory School Sport team that travels to the national championships in Brisbane in September, giving Year 10 to Year 12 athletes their last chance to post qualifying marks before term three exams begin.
Events ran from 9am to 4pm along the back straight facing Bagot Road, with field competitions held on the infield near the Rapid Creek end of the complex. Darwin High School on Bullocky Point supplied officials and timing gear, while the NT School Sport office managed entries from 14 public and private schools.
Officials recorded 287 individual entries and 22 relay teams on the day, up from 241 entries in the same meet last July. The fastest time came in the open boys 100m when Casuarina’s Liam Torres clocked 10.78 seconds into a 1.2m/s headwind. Palmerston’s Sarah Nguyen cleared 1.68m in the high jump and threw 11.42m in the shot put to win both events.
Results sheets will be posted on the NT School Sport website by July 12, and coaches will confirm national team nominations by July 18. Parents can register for the August Darwin Athletics Club development camp at TIO Stadium by emailing the club office before July 25, with places limited to 60 athletes at a cost of $45 per session.
Coaches from schools in Parap and Stuart Park have already booked extra lane time at the Marrara warm-up track for the final three weeks of term.
